MA-Series: Mechanically-Agitated Bioreactor Systems

Mechanically Agitated (MA) systems are the most common and universal type of bioreactors available today. Our MA bioreactor is distinguished from other systems in terms of construction and design. Our modular design, PLC control system, and use of industry-standard materials & components result in durability, simple installation, straightforward use, and uncomplicated maintenance.

To meet a wide range of requirements, we carry a complete line of MA bioreactors that include sizes ranging from 1 to 14 liters for bench top and >30L for pilot or production plants; and for a diversity of applications such as microbial, plant, insect, animal, and human cells, and for both adherent & suspension cell cultures. We also welcome the opportunity to partner with you in designing a completely customized MA system.

MA-200/250: Custom Made to Order Pilot-Scale Systems (30+ Liter Size)

“We purchased Bioreactor Sciences’ (BRS) MA-150 in 2017 and it has been integral in scaling up production of our membrane protein. BRS’ MA-150 is Metaclipse’s first lab bioreactor and it has proven to be very reliable and intuitive to operate. Their customer service and technical support has been invaluable in assisting us with establishing our SOP for a fed-batch process in less than one month. This verified process has allowed us to successfully develop procedures to manufacture 2 proteins and 2 antibodies. I highly recommend it.”

-Swe, Senior Scientist, Metaclipse Therapeutics

“BioReactor Sciences' MA100 represents an excellent option for bench-scale bioreactor systems when ease-of-entry and fast batch turnaround times are required. With its Program and Setup features, industrial standard components, process automation and tune-ability, routine cultures are stable, robust, and relatively trouble-free compared to similarly or higher priced glass & stainless systems. The MA-100 is an excellent choice for those looking for an easy-to-use and dependable platform for small to medium microbial fermentation.”

Our MA system for microbial culture (010,100 &200) and cell culture (015,150 &250) are very similar. Our standard vessels are glass (<14L) or s/s (>40L) with s/s jacked vessels for water heating and cooling. Optionally we also provide vessels with water circulation coil for heating and cooling to reduce the total vessel weight. We also provide round bottom glass vessel with only heating pad for cell cultures which requires no cooling. The std vessel configuration and control system are nearly identical between both cell and microbial cultures except for the impeller type (microbial: Rushton impellers; cell culture: pitched blade or marine impeller), baffle (microbial: detachable baffle; cell culture: none) and gassing (microbial: 1 or 2 gasses, cell culture: 4 gasses). It is therefore very easy to convert our system from cell to microbial culture system. However it may be more complicated to do the other because of the gassing system.

Our MA systems can also easily be adopted for perfusion or continuous culture by simple modifications to be used as a Perfusion/Fixed Bed bioreactor [see more].

For flexibility and functionality, we recently developed a bench top control console, BioFlex-I, which can be applied for most of bench top single use or reusable vessels and applications including MA, AL, PF, BF. Truly a very economical system with one console to fit all [see more] .
